Handumanan

Yes, the earthquake was pretty cool.  Our whole east side got cracked pretty well ,but from Cebuano and south of there on the east side is Cebu mission.
My new ward is good but ward 2 is better really.  We have been working our butts off to get some less actives back to church and we don't have too many investigators but we have a couple.  We have a new filipino in the house that is pretty talkative; but he doesn't smile and he doesn't laugh and is not fun whatsoever.  Really he is a Debbie downer about everything and that isn't too fun so we try to be out of the house as long as we can to tell you the truth. My comp Elder Simmons is good but we feel bad for Elder Jennings.
Wow, how about Jacob, glad you all had fun at the wedding.  Tell Ben and Jamie congrats they are perfect for each other.  Sweet the budda; tell Parker to take care of him!
How is everyone?  Is Katie looking different?

I'm just thinking I was the last of my friends to leave, so all the other friends will be back in no time wow!

well mom. love you guys and sorry my emails short but love you all,

So a crazy thing happened today, we had a good 6.8 earthquake just 2 hours ago.  I guess a lot of earthquakes hit the Philippines.  Today though; wow that was a crazy feeling.  Kinda cool but scary.  A lot of the people freaked out here.  Some people were fainting and it was like Godzilla was coming with all the people running out of stores.

My transfer was kinda crazy also.  I was transferred over to Ward 1 but this means I will stay in Handumann.  Jennings is now a sr and I'm with Elder Simmons.  So I work with new people but still get to see the old ward also because Handumanan isn't too big.  That is it for the today though I might email you guys later.  Sorry, it is just that today has been kinda weird with the whole earthquake.  The electricity keeps on going in and out so i will just try to get this email off.  I will email you later this week.

Hey Momma bear and family,

This week is transfer announcements...I hope I get to stay with Elder Jennings.  I am really having a great time, to tell you the truth I am not getting trunky but maybe just a little.  I mean I have 6 months.  The filipino goes home in 3 days so in the house we have been talking about when our time comes and it makes me sad.  But it also gets me thinking, I will miss these people but I'm ready to see you guys.  I'm ready to have a sunday dinner with the family again.  I'm ready to make a homemade christmas present.  I'm ready for the swimming.  I'm ready to go hang out with all the rm's and Parker.  I'm ready to go to school but not ready to decide what to take.  I'm ready to see you all again. but I'm not ready to leave these people.  They have got my heart wrapped around their fingers.  So in some ways I can't wait til July comes but then I don't want it to come at all.
We are really focusing on less actives, the area authority came out and said all missionaires, "All hands on deck with the less actives".  I enjoy working with the people that are kinda lost because its awesome to see the light shine again in their eyes.  We are working with some great investigators also.  I enjoy this area a lot and yeah we have a real shower in the apartment.  I made a little christmas tour of the house during christmas time and I was going to send it to you guys but the computer wouldn't let me.  I guess you will have to wait until I get back to see everythin.

Oh and yes, I'm liking fish.  I just eat the bones now because I'm  to lazy to pick the bones out, haha just kidding, but seriously.

Today for pday I met a lady here from Gilbert Arizona she lives on Riggs and Val Vista.  She wasn't a  member but it was just weird to talk to someone from the big AZ.
Thanks for the good story about the tongans.  Tell Dana good job on morp, great theme and sounds like the Tongan men were a hit at the pep assembly.  Also tell her and Luke and Pops thanks for the emails.  Sounds like just a normal relaxing week, but thats cool sometime you got to just relax and enjoy everything around you.  Well this my email for the week, sorry I'm no story teller like Parker, you will just have to wait...

love you all

Hello People,

This week was good and our baptism was awesome!  They are awesome members now and that was only 2 people out of their family.  We are still focusing on the family trying to get them to church.  Some of the kids come to church but the parents are busy and they are a little afraid to change.  I can sympathize with that; to tell you the truth I would be too if I hadn't grown up with it.

I had so much fun with my last comp and now I'm having a lot of fun with Jennings and Simmons.

How I wish I could be at those parties and the weddings; dang I would not expect those two to get married first; they were always the most crazy.

Mom you get suckered into a lot of weird things.  Let me guess one of your tennis buddies got you in the miss whatever its called pageant.  You want to hear something funny; here in the philis they have a lot of contests like that.  My favorite is macho gay contest; its awesome...as you can probably imagine.

Chris, hope you are not a baby when you are sick and remember no watching movies when you're not at school!  When mom is gone watch them and then when you hear the garage open you got that remote in the hand and turn everything off.  Just remember if you do, do that you probably have 25 sec to get everything shut off so remember you got to be quick!

Parker and Troy happy birthday.

Tait is a smart man, filpina girls are the way to go.  Tell him congrats for me.  Tell jake to sell that smart car and get two matching baby blue blazers thats where its at!

Everyone take care love you all and halong kamo sa mga koripnut ninyo,

We had a great baptism on Saturday.  Nodelyn Villasorda Barretto and then she was confirmed on Sunday; it went really well.  Sunday we had a great day.  We had 11 investigators at church.  I was happy, sometimes you have those days and then you think finally all this hard work is payiing off.  Elder Jennings and Elder Simmons and I have a lot of fun together.  They are way awesome they make mission life easy and more fun and surprising but yah we are having a blast.
This week we have 2 more investigators getting baptized also we are excited for Diane and Eman Gumban, they are 11 and 16.  Eman the 16 year old is amazing, he is already in Alma.  He is great, we are a little hesitant to baptize him because his parents aren't members yet but they are awesome people.  The 11 year is my crush haha she is a cutie.  I know that's the missionary way but she is awesome.

Dad, it was good to hear about the surgery and that it went well.  That was definitely a blessing to my prayers.  Dad you're a trooper; keep on going and pushing.  Keep me updated too about everything.

Alright Mom if you say someone is going on a mission you got to say where they are going silly goose! He will be an awesome missionary its tough but there is nothing for him to worry about.

I am glad that everyone had a good week.  Parker emailed me a picture from his race,  it looks pretty awesome and next year we're going to have to do that again.  I want to see the video of them getting shocked.  Tell Dana hope she had fun at the Alleys but if she would come here you would spend 100 dollars and by far blow the L.A. Alleys out of the water!  Trust me, so if you ever come here save your money and pack an extra empty suitcase. Sounds like a good start for the new year.  DANG kt wow wow wow !!!!!!!!!!!! That is probably a life changing sound for you hearing that heart beat from inside of your tummy, the big bear congrats you guys.

Everyone love you all!  Dad feel better!

(To our dear blog readers....Jared's dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer a couple of weeks ago; we feel like the cancer is contained in the kidney which is a good thing...they just take out the whole kidney and life is good again.  We felt like we had to tell Jared so we could have his prayers also, honestly how could we not tell him?  We were lucky enough to be online the same time as him this last Sunday night and got to write back and forth.  His initial letter may sound a bit frantic; but after our conversation he feels better about everything as we do.  Dec. 28th; we get the yucky old kidney out and hopefully we never have to think about it again!)

Hey family,
Gosh I have been worried to the max this entire week and I'm trying not to but that is natural.  Really this week killed me; of course I focused on work don't worry about that; but when we go home I cant stop thinking; this cant happen to Dad like it just cant. I pray constantly everyday really but I'm scared to hear what the outcome is.  Sometimes I think of the worse and then I think of it as just oh just a quick little slice and no problem. I'm scared I'm so far away and I can't call, I can't do anything except hear the weekly post...let me know exactly what happens next week please .

As for birthdays Dana happy birthday and happy birthday Luke.  I cant believe Dana is 16 and luke puki will be 18 dang !!!!  Well, that's way cool that Dana won a contest.  What was it like a hip hop thing or other dance?  Was it just her or was it someone else too?  That's cool that they gave her Sherlock Holmes Premiere tickets. Luke will probably love that one and tell Dana to keep up the dancing and tell Lke to keep having fun go and do something fun for the birthday instead just the same old, same old.

Nice that they are close to the break now, I always loved Christmas break it always a fun break. We just watched the Christmas devotional yesterday it was good but kinda the same old thing. I thought there was going to be a lot more music.
Cool you got to take the girls to White Christmas.  I'm excited for Christmas but to tell you the truth it doesn't feel like Christmas one bit.  I don't even hear Christmas music maybe every once in awhile.  I love the people and I love the philis but I'm excited to have Christmas next year with the family and to be cold for a change.
As for the ward they are awesome we will have a Christmas party this Saturday.  I'm excited for that and just hanging out with the ward and bringing the investigators also.

As for our investigators they are good but here in the city there are much more temptations so they struggle a lot more then the investigators in the Bookid.  We have 3 kids they are friends: Spencer, Zerision, and Lester.  They are good kids except the smoking; the problem is its hard for them to stop and the bad part is they are 14, 15, and 14.   We have Sister Canto, she is smart and has great questions but the problem there is she is busy.  Then we have Sister Tata, she is 18 and her parents both died so she just lives with her brother that is 21.  They have it rough because they have no support but they are fun.   We also have  2 families; the Tacugie family and Guban family.  They are great but we have to get the Tacugie family married before baptism and we have to get the Brother to church.  The Guban family is good they are fun also and smart but they are looking for a big answer about the church.  If its right or not but they will realize soon.  We also have Sister Infante she is sweet and she is strong but her husband doesn't want anything to do with the church.  She is an awesome lady, but her husband is a dirtbag. We have a brand new lady also we haven't taught her yet but she already came to church and went to the Christmas devo.  I have a feeling she will be elect but we have many more though they are kinda scared to move forward in the church.

Love you guys and Dad feel better.
love you all,
elder heywood

(then a few minutes later)

I'm glad you have such a good attitude about the whole scare but really pops...this past week I have been scared out of my mind.  I have still been hardworking and it is no big deal when I work but when im studying and then when im in bed my mind goes pretty crazy.  I am trying to just think about the positive things but sometimes the negative gets the best of me.  Lets just say Pops, you cant get worse, you just cant I wont let it happen so if you get worse. sorry you can't.  Dad, I'm praying for you like no other and I hope everything goes to plan.

I can't believe I'm on the downhill.  I'm excited but I'm also going to be very sad when its done.  The mission is great.  Thank you Dad for encouraging me to go on the mission it has changed my life for the better and I will be forever grateful for this mission and these people.  I love them so much.  I cant wait to call you guys and hear about how the Christmas was.  You guys feeding the homeless again?  Dad, love you and get better.

(then a few minutes after that)

Dad, thank you for sending me your thoughts about your blessing that gives me such comfort.  I have been thinking about it a lot and I remember my blessing from President Bluth on the setting apart of my mission and he said no harm will come unto my family while I was gone.  I still keep faith in that blessing.  Not to say I wasn't scared out of my mind but thank you Dad.  Your email brings me a lot of comfort and I'm so grateful for my family and for all the examples that are in our family.  Gosh, we are so blessed. Dad, I love you!
